AUGUST 2007 BACK IN BEIJING

We arrived in Beijing at midnight last night. (after traveling to Shanghai, Hangzhou and Nanjing)

It looks sooooo smoggy.

It looks soooo different to anywhere else

- dark green pine trees
it reminds me of Russia or Germany. (or what I think they look like as I have never been to Russia)

Compared to the rest of China that I have seen which is tropical and bright green with blue skies.

I am starting to realise Beijing is NOT China, only a tiny part of it.

I have that "damn my holiday is over feeling"

Coming back to Beijing is like coming back to the everyday Sissyphian exsistence.

So I have moved into my new room. I start uni in 11 days.

Have bought colourful things from Lhasa to decorate my room.

Hey last night in Lanzhou(west China) after I wrote on my blog I saw 2 laowais at the internet cafe

guess what --- They were Australian

so its true I CANT GO ANYWHERE WITHOUT MEETING AN AUSTRALIAN

UNI ENTRANCE EXAM TO STUDY CHINESE AUGUST 07

uni entrance exam

2nd August 2007

Today I had my uni entrance exam. it went okay

This is how it is scored (A is the lowest score)

Beginner               A         A1      A2

Intermediate         B        B1      B2

Advanced              C       C1    C2          D and over  Very Advanced

I was hoping that I would get  A2   but I got   B1
so excited. so i start uni tomorrow at 8am.

I will go 8am - 12   everyday

Met some ppl from the UK, Holland, Switzerland and Japan.

I am just so pleased that I did well in my exam. I was so worried.
I feel more confident in my Chinese. I met all these people who speak no Chinese at all.
That made me feel better about mine.

I had lunch with a guy from Congo. He is so cool and intelligent. We talked about
globalisation, China, Congonese culture, materialism, happiness, status, prejudice,
human nature, society - so cool to have an interesting and intelligent conversation.

eeeek I am so excited.

My life is exercise, study and socialise. No time to blog.

My sister gave birth to my nephew last week. It is a pity I could not be there with my sister.

Someone offered me free tickets to see "The Cure" in Sydney.

What a good week.
